For your consideration is this Cartier Privé Tortue Monopoussoir Chronograph in platinum, an extremely rare and elegant watch released in 2024 as a limited edition run of 200 individually numbered timepieces.

As part of Cartier’s private collection, these watches are not even posted on the brand’s website and are only offered to their top clients around the world. Tortue Monopushers in all their vintage variations have become some of the most collectable watches on the market in the last decade, with the last similar watch appearing in the late 90’s CPCP collection. Cartier’s decision to revive it with a fresh version in platinum has resulted in something very special.

Its sensible 34mm by 43mm sizing balances compact and bold. That is to say, it hugs the wrist like a sculpture, which is a quality apparent in many of its vintage counterparts. And yet, it is not a small watch either, even by modern standards.

The single chronograph pusher is integrated in the red cabochon crown (red colour being specific to their platinum pieces), helping hide the watch’s complexity and maintain its aesthetic balance. The opaline dial draws from vintage chronographs with warmth against cool platinum. Polished Roman numerals sit in a minute track, while the bi-compax layout sub-counters have a concentric circle finish. Pomme-style heat-blued hands add a subtle pop of colour.

Powering the watch is the hand-wound calibre 1928 MC, a new calibre by Cartier, which has a column wheel operated chronograph, Geneva waves finishing on the bridges, hand-polished “anglage” bevels and a 44 hour power reserve. While most brands just use a round movement + movement ring to make their movements fit inside non-round cases, the calibre 1928 MC is actually designed specifically for and shaped like its outer Tortue case.

For your consideration is this extra special Cartier Santos-Dumont in stainless steel. It’s a watch that pays tribute to the brand’s aviation history in a fun, aesthetically pleasing and technical way.

The skeletonised dial/movement puts the insides of the watch on full display both front and back, and every component inside has been finished to a very high standard which makes for a highly enjoyable viewing experience. The stand-out feature is of course the micro-rotor powering the automatic component of the watch, which is modelled on the aviatior Santos-Dumont’s famous La Demoiselle plane.

It’s all housed in a stainless steel case with a classic Santos-Dumont form-factor and winding crown with blue cabochon gem, matching the heat blued sword hands.

The gray lacquer alligator strap has been perfectly paired to match the colours of the movement and contours of the case. The strap has a quick-release system, allowing it to be easily switched with the included black strap. It is fitted on a stainless steel Cartier ardillon buckle.

With a thickness of only 8mm, the watch is incredibly comfortable on the wrist which makes it a perfect everyday dress watch.

Condition

The watch is in excellent condition, with only very light signs of wear visible on close inspection. It appears like-new from a normal viewing distance.
