This Omega Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy” was released in 2020 on the 50th anniversary of the “Silver Snoopy Award” received by Omega from NASA in recognition of the brand’s pivotal role in space exploration.
The watch lays claim to being one of, if not the, most anticipated watches of the last decade. Collectors knew the anniversary was coming, but what Omega had up its sleeve remained a tightly guarded secret. When the watch finally dropped, the response was one of overwhelming elation. Omega had released a genuinely game-changing timepiece.
The watch features the familiar 42mm Moonwatch case that has been in use since 1964 with a number of modern updates. The watch has a blue ceramic bezel with white enamelled tachymetre scale, a silver/white galvanised dial made from sterling silver (indicated by the letters Ag925 underneath the word “Professional”), applied blue dial indices and Snoopy logo on the seconds display at 9 o’clock. However, the star of the show is the NAIAD Lock caseback featuring an Earth disc which rotates once per minute and an animated Snoopy in his Command and Service Module which flies around the caseback display when the chronograph is activated.
Powering the watch is the manual-wind calibre 3861 with Co-Axial escapement, free-sprung balance, 50 hours power reserve and hacking seconds. The movement is a certified Master Chronometer ensuring superb timekeeping and is resistant to magnetic fields reaching 15,000 Gauss.
The watch is fitted with a coated nylon fabric strap with calf leather inner lining. Embossed on the inner lining of the strap is a diagram of the trajectory of the Apollo 13 mission.
