F.P. Journe Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante

Produced between 2018 and 2020, the F.P. Journe Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante is a technically sophisticated timepiece combining a split-seconds chronograph with the brand’s signature Very Large Date.

The 44 mm case measures 12.1 mm in thickness and houses the manually wound monopoussoir rattrapante movement. The movement is constructed in aluminium alloy for the titanium version, while the 18K 6N gold and platinum versions are fitted with movements made in 18K rose gold.

A distinctive feature of the watch is the integration of rubber inserts into the case and bracelet links. Inspired by the protective bumpers of vintage automobiles, these inserts are designed to minimise friction and protect the case when placed on smooth surfaces. The bracelet links attached to the case are articulated, allowing the bracelet to adapt naturally to different wrist sizes. The folding clasp also provides approximately 5 mm of length adjustment.

The crown features three positions:

• Position 1: Winding

• Position 2: Correction of the Very Large Date

• Position 3: Time setting

The chronograph functions are controlled through two pushers, both manufactured in the same metal as the case. The pusher at 2 o’clock controls the start, stop and reset functions, while the pusher at 4 o’clock operates the rattrapante mechanism.

The movement was developed from the chronograph created for Only Watch 2017 and incorporates a direct chronograph gearing system with a rocking pinion. This construction eliminates the characteristic jump of the chronograph seconds hand when the mechanism is activated.

One of the movement’s significant technical achievements is the integration of the Very Large Date within a total movement height of only 6.80 mm. This compact architecture, combined with the sophisticated split-seconds mechanism, reflects the technical approach and distinctive engineering associated with F.P. Journe.

With its unconventional case construction, innovative movement architecture and highly distinctive aesthetic, the Chronographe Monopoussoir Rattrapante represents an important and technically compelling chapter in the modern history of F.P. Journe.
