For your consideration is this Rolex Sea-Dweller 16600 in stainless steel. First released in 1988 and produced until 2008, the reference 16600 was the main watch in Rolex’s Sea-Dweller range and has become an icon of the dive-watch world for its unmatched capabilities and smart design.

Part of what makes this watch so special is its very attractive dimensions. At 40mm, the watch has the same dimensions as its Submariner brother but with slightly more thickness due to its improved water resistance (1,220 metres vs 300 metres) and the helium-escape valve on the side of the case.

As of 2008 Sea-Dweller watches have all blown out to 43-44mm in diameter with extra thickness to boot, making it a watch suitable for wear only for those with large wrists. For those with small-medium wrists, the modern Sea-Dweller range isn’t even a contender. For those with large wrists, this reference 16600 wears as well, if not better than the modern versions due to its reduced heft and dimensions that make it suitable for wear in all situations.

This example features SuperLuminova luminous material on the dial and hands. Accordingly the watch has superb legibility both day and night, with the modern SuperLuminova material able to hold a charge deep into the night (and depths of the sea). The watch is fitted on a stainless-steel Oyster bracelet with solid links and Oysterlock folding clasp. The clasp features a diver’s extension system that can be used to wear the watch around a wetsuit.

Powering the watch is the calibre 3135 with bi-directional automatic winding, 48 hour power reserve, Parachrom hairspring and hacking seconds function.
